UNIVERSITY PARK, IL – Two members of the Governors State University volleyball team have been honored as NAIA-Daktronics Scholar-Athletes for the 2016 season. The school's first-ever volleyball selections are senior setter Savik Salgado and senior outside hitter Hayley Wacker.
The award recognizes student-athletes who are juniors or above in academic standing and own a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher (as of the 2016 fall term). They also must have attended two full years at their respective institution or a full year as a transfer.
"It's a great honor for Savik and Hayley to be honored for their work in the classroom," said GSU Head Coach Pedro Gonzalez. "We're proud of the commitment they have made to their academics and the contributions they brought to our program."
Salgado and Wacker become the second and third GSU student-athletes to receive the NAIA Scholar-Athlete award, joining 2015 recipient Kanitral Averhart women's basketball team.
