UNIVERSITY PARK, IL – Addressing the need for more size next season, the Governors State University men's basketball team has signed 6-foot-6, 205-pound forward Arturo Sanchez to a National Letter of Intent for the 2017-18 campaign.
A native of Madrid, Spain, Sanchez is playing his senior season under head coach James Valle at Andrews Osborne Academy, located in Willoughby, Ohio.
"We are very excited to have Arturo join our GSU family," said GSU Head Coach Tony Bates. "Arturo can play either the small or power forward positions and will hopefully give us quality minutes as a true freshman."
Sanchez, who was averaging 17.1 points and 7.6 rebounds as of mid-January, has captained Andrews Osborne to a 23-9 overall record and a conference championship this season. Last year he averaged 15.4 points and 7.0 rebounds to earn All-Lake Effect Conference First Team honors. He was also named to the News-Herald Honor Roll, tabbed Athlete of the Year at Andrews Osborne and chosen team MVP in 2015-16.
The son of Maria Morales and Oswaldo Sanchez, Arturo plans to major in business at GSU.
