UNIVERSITY PARK, IL – Governors State women's basketball program continues to add to its 2017-18 recruiting class with the addition of 5-foot-8 forward Courtnei Johnson, who has signed a National Letter of Intent.
Johnson comes to GSU after spending two seasons at Morton College. Last year she ranked third in team scoring and second in rebounding, averaging 10.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game while starting 26 of 28 games. For her efforts, Johnson earned All-Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference Second Team honors.
Johnson also saw time in 27 contests as a freshman following a stellar high school career at Morton West. She joins former Morton College teammate Tyisha Worthy in the Jaguar Class of 2021, along with Roosevelt transfer Hydeia Thomas and Ohio prep standout Alexis Karovic.
"Courtnei's versatility on the court, with her length and ability to handle the ball, will allow her to make a big impact with our style of play," said GSU Head Coach La Toshia Burrell. "We are excited for Courtnei to join our team as she provides positive energy both on the court and in the classroom."
A native of Maywood, Courtnei is the daughter of Latricia Johnson and plans to major in criminal justice at GSU.
