UNIVERSITY PARK, IL – The Governors State men's basketball team has signed 6-foot-1 guard Shane Maple of Carl Sandburg College to a National Letter of Intent for the 2017-18 season.
Maple led the Chargers in scoring (10.5 points per game) last season, earning National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Region IV Second Team honors along with All-Arrowhead Conference Second Team accolades. He scored a career-high 30 points versus Kirkwood Community College.
During his two-year career at Carl Sandburg, Maple started 57 of 64 games, scoring 800 points (for a 12.5 average) and swiping 99 steals. He also finished with an 84.1 free throw shooting percentage. Maple earned All-Big 12 honors at Peoria High School.
"Shane brings tremendous basketball IQ to our backcourt," said GSU Head Coach Tony Bates. "With his defensive prowess and scoring ability, Shane is a nice addition to our team."
The son of Kenyatta Ferguson, Shane will have two years of eligibility with the Jaguars and plans to major in business.
