CHANNAHON, IL – The new-look women's cross country team at Governors State finished eighth at the season-opening USF Twilight Invitational on Friday. NCAA Division III Chicago claimed the team title ahead of runner-up Trinity Christian.

Emily Metzger (25:37.9), Phaishe Thompson (30:46.9) and Elizabeth Shirk (30:54.3) — runners who last competed as high schoolers two years ago — made their Jaguar debut on the 5K course at Channahon Community Park. Dominique Hunt posted the team's quickest time (for the fourth time in her career) with a 25:34.5 showing. Senior classmate Keyona Jones (27:46.3) also scored for GSU.

"Some of our new runners got a taste of collegiate running," said GSU Head Coach Kevin Kredens. "We were pleased to get some of the split times we were looking for and we will continue to get better as the season progresses."

GSU returns to action next Friday, traveling to the Midwest Classic in Bourbonnais.
