BOURBONNAIS, IL – Governors State men's golf team, which has developed a penchant for strong second round showings this season, uncharacteristically deviated from that plan Saturday, falling three spots for a fifth-place finish at the Olivet Nazarene Invitational.
The Jaguars shot a final round 321 to finish at 628 over 36 holes at the Kankakee Elks Country Club. Columbia took home top team honors with a two-day total of 600, followed by Parkland (606), Olivet Nazarene (621) and St. Francis (625). GSU finished ahead of Roosevelt (642), North Central (663), North Park (680) and Robert Morris (735).
Rookie John Orowick shot a team-low round of 78 for a two-round total of 150, good enough for fifth place overall. Casey Domke (75-80-155) tied for 14th place and Matt Contey shot a team-low 79 to finish at 161, earning a 24th-place showing.
"We put ourselves in position to contend for the team title with a strong round on Friday," said GSU Head Coach Mark Haines. "We didn't shoot as well today, and will use this as a learning experience moving forward."
The Jaguars travel to the St. Francis Fall Classic on Tuesday.
