JOLIET, IL – Governors State earned its second podium finish of the fall campaign with a second-place finish at the St. Francis Fall Classic on Tuesday. The Jaguars shot a 292, two shots back of NCAA Division II Lewis (290). GSU finished ahead of CCAC opponents Roosevelt (299), Judson (302), St. Francis (305) and Trinity Christian (311). Last year, the Jaguars placed eighth at the event contested at the Wedgewood Golf Course.
Matt Contey won the individual title (his second) with a 2-under-par 70, matching the school's 18-hole scoring record. Casey Domke tied for second with a 1-under-par 71, earning medalist honors for the sixth time in his career. GSU also received rounds in the 70s from John Orowick (75) and Jack Calderone (76).
"It was a phenomenal outing for the guys against quality competition," said GSU Head Coach Mark Haines. "This is the kind of critical performance that puts our team on the map."
The Jaguars return to action Sept. 22-23, taking part in the IVCC Invitational.
