UNIVERSITY PARK, IL – With previous meetings having taken place on the Roosevelt's court and a pair of neutral sites, Governors State finally encountered the Lakers in University Park as the CCAC Crossover got underway Friday evening. Roosevelt won its fourth straight in the series by virtue of a 25-20, 25-19, 15-25, 25-18 victory at the Athletics & Recreation Center.
GSU (11-8, 1-5 CCAC) received another outstanding effort from middle blocker Ashley PIckert, who made 14 kills and converted .481 of her attacks. She also served four aces and collected seven digs. Other notable GSU performances included seven kills from Erika Halverson and four block assists by Hayley Serbin.
Lee Brooke produced a match-high 15 kills and Casadi Brendemuehl tracked down 10 digs for the Lakers (5-9, 3-4 CCAC).
"Roosevelt is a really good team and I like how we hung in there with them," said GSU Head Coach Pedro Gonzalez. "Our matches with them are getting closer and more competitive, which is a good sign for our program."
Day Two of the Crossover will see a total of six matches played at the ARC, with simultaneous action taking place on side-by-side courts. GSU plays host to Judson at 1 p.m. before meeting Robert Morris at 3 p.m.
