CHICAGO – The Chi-Town Fall Classic could easily had been called the NCAA-CCAC Challenge as Governors State (627 score) placed fourth and conference brethren Holy Cross (608) was runner-up to Division I entry UW-Green Bay (597) and third-place finisher Chicago State (626). Hosted by Chicago State, the event was held at the Harborside International Golf Center.
GSU entered final round play tied with CSU, but finished one stroke behind its northern neighbor after compiling a round of 315. Matt Contey finished with a 36-hole total of 151, tying for third place overall. Casey Domke turned in a two-day total of 154 to tie for 11th place and Jack Calderone was right behind with a 155. John Orowick and John Ciscato also figured in GSU's scoring.
"Matt Contey showed he is one of the area's top golfers, but as a team, we're still looking for more consistency," said GSU Head Coach Mark Haines. "At the end of the day, we're really not that far off from the Division I schools we're playing."
GSU, which has played eight tournaments during its busy fall campaign, travels to TPC Deere Run October 16-17 for the NAIA Preview.
