Mark Haines begins his third season with the Governors State women's golf program, having taken over the head coaching position on September 15, 2015.

In 2016-17 Haines bulked the team's schedule by adding eight tournaments (including three home dates) and tripled the team's roster size which resulted in the Jaguars posting team scores at six events. Along the way, rookie Emily Bell shot a school-record 88 at the Jaguar Illiana Shootout and earned all-tournament team honors with the program's highest individual finish (fourth place). GSU also placed ahead of two squads with a ninth-place finish in its debut at the CCAC Championships.

Starting his career at GSU as an assistant coach, Haines was elevated to the head position and coached at two tournaments during the team's inaugural season in 2015-16.

Haines, who also serves as general manager of the Lincoln Oaks Golf Course, hails from a three-generation family of college golfers. His father, Arthur, played golf and basketball at the University of Richmond, while his son, Keith, competed at Eckert College and Chicago State University. Mark's daughter, Lindsey, was a Division III All-American golfer at Illinois Wesleyan University.

Haines was a four-year letterwinner and a four-sport athlete at Illinois Institute of Technology, serving as a player-coach his final two seasons from 1980-82. He also served as IIT's assistant men's basketball coach from 1981-83. In addition to golf, Haines competed in basketball, cross country and bowling.

A native of Riverdale, Illinois, Haines received a bachelor's in finance (1980) and a master's in business (1982) from IIT.

Haines and his wife Kimberly reside in Crete.
