GSU Loses Road Opener at Huntington
HUNTINGTON, IN—Governors State took to the road for the first time in 2021-22 and dropped a 76-67 decision to Huntington of the Crossroads League Tuesday night in Pratt Arena.
The Jaguars started strong behind the play of center Chris Winters, who knocked down two shots, grabbed a defensive rebound and blocked a shot before the game was two minutes old.
Huntington claimed the lead 5:29 into the first half and never trailed again in winning its season opener. Five Foresters finished in double-figures, led by Lane Sparks's 15 points.
GSU received 11 points each from DeAndrey Robinson and Glenn Rhone. The Jaguars dominated the boards, 57-39, with Travis Hogan grabbing eight rebounds in 21 minutes and Robinson snagging eight as well. GSU struggled from the floor, shooting just 37.1 percent including 3-for-19 from the three-point line.
Governors State (2-3) continues its tour of Indiana schools with a road trip to IU Kokomo on Friday. It will mark the team's fourth-straight contest against a Hoosier opponent.
