Jaguars Edged by the Titans in South Bend
SOUTH BEND, IN—Governors State's upset bid on the road came up just short in a 68-65 loss to IU South Bend at the Student Activities Center Tuesday evening.
IUSB (7-2, 4-0 CCAC), the two-time defending CCAC Tournament champions, has received votes in the NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll.
Except for a 2-0 lead early, GSU trailed most of the game until seizing a 53-52 advantage with 5:37 left on a Phil Holmes Jr. layup. GSU's comeback was aided by an NBA three-pointer from Theo Owens, who finished with a team-high 12 points. IUSB answered with a three-pointer 16 points later and held on to remain unbeaten in conference play.
Gerald Duckworth contributed with 11 points and DeAndrey Robinson cleared eight boards. Payton Harley distributed a team-best eight assists and attempted a three-pointer at the buzzer, but it didn't fall.
"We went tooth-and-nail with a legitimate Top 25 team tonight," said GSU Head Coach Tony Bates. "The game could have gone either way, unfortunately it didn't go our way. We have some good days coming though."
The Titans were led by Miles Tracey's 18 points and Dylan Allen's 15-point effort.
GSU (4-7, 2-3 CCAC), having played 11 games already, is off the rest of the month, returning to action on December 1 at Cornerstone.
