Men's Hoops Begins New Year with CCAC Loss

UNIVERSITY PARK, IL—Governors State took on St. Ambrose for the second time in 19 days, but failed to complete a season sweep, falling 86-78 Wednesday evening at the Athletics and Recreation Center.

GSU (6-10, 3-6 CCAC), which hadn't played since posting a nine-point win at SAU on December 18, traded leads with St. Ambrose most of the night. The game was deadlocked, 67-67, with 6:34 left in the second half before Grant Mason sank a jumper that gave the visitors a lead they did not relinquish.

Playing short-handed, GSU went just three deep into its bench. Payton Harley finished with 25 points, the highest points total of the season for the Jaguars. He also handed out seven assists. DeAndrey Robinson compiled 15 points and eight rebounds while Adam Taylor and Trenten Nadolski (who earned the start) finished with 11 points each. Freshman guard William Bates made his GSU debut, playing 18 minutes.

SAU (5-10, 4-6 CCAC) was led by Will Spriggs's 29 points and Tom Kazanecki's double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds.

Governors State hits the road to face Calumet St. Joseph on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Rittenmeyer Athletic Center.
