Women's Basketball Loses to Aquinas in Season Opener
UNIVERSITY PARK, IL—Governors State made a frantic push in the closing minutes before Aquinas shut the door on a 59-53 victory in the season opener for both teams at the Athletics and Recreation Center.
The Jaguars, trailing by 11 points in the fourth quarter, closed the gap to three on Jordan Towery's layup with 26 seconds left. GSU had a chance to tie the contest a few seconds later, but a three-point attempt did not fall.
Sharnita Breeze led GSU offensively with 18 points while Towery, who missed last season due to injury, scored 13 points and distributed six assists in her Jaguar debut. Gaetana Davis cleared seven rebounds and provided 10 points.
Aquinas, which uses a platoon system of five subs at a time, received 23 points from Isabel Reemsnyder and 14 rebounds from Alexis Thomas.
GSU is off next week before hosting Bethel November 3 in University Park.
