Women's Basketball Adds Division I Transfer Cashay Dixon

UNIVERSITY PARK, IL—The Governors State women's basketball program has added a player with a winning pedigree with the signing of guard Cashay Dixon to a National Letter of Intent. A Chicago native, Dixon is a transfer from Howard University.

Last season with the Howard Bison, Dixon compiled 28 points and 18 rebounds while appearing in 18 games. Prior to Howard, Dixon played four seasons of varsity basketball at Simeon Career Academy, helping the school to its first IHSA Class 3A State Championship in 2020 and three city titles. She graduated No. 5 in her class and was a member of the National Honors Society. A 5-foot-8 shooting guard, Dixon also won an AAU National Championship with Baylor Basketball in 2019.

The daughter of Aisha Irvin, Cashay will major in business management at GSU. Due to COVID-19, Dixon will have four years of eligibility and is expected to join the team for the second half of the 2021-22 season.

Dixon chose GSU for several reasons: "It's close to home and a chance for me to play in front of family. I also wanted to play for Coach Mack and contribute to a winning team."

"Cashay brings toughness and experience, having played at the Division I level. Her scoring, defense and athletic ability will fit in well with our style of play," said GSU Head Coach Tonishea Mack.
