Women's Basketball Rolls to Third-Straight Conference Win
UNIVERSITY PARK, IL—Governors State received double-digit scoring from five players to pin a 69-39 loss on Calumet St. Joseph Saturday afternoon at the Athletics and Recreation Center. The 30-point margin of victory was the second-largest for GSU in CCAC play—the Jaguars produced a 32-point win at Trinity Christian in 2018—and the biggest conference win ever at home.
GSU (4-2, 3-1 CCAC) jumped out to an 8-0 lead and never looked back, leading from opening tip to the final buzzer.
Kennedy Weigt scored a team-high 13 points and Angelique Cowan compiled 11 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals in 24 minutes of action. Gaetana Davis likewise collected 11 points and seven rebounds while Trinity Sims and Justice Crooks chipped in with 10 points apiece. GSU was unflappable from the free-throw line, sinking 16-of-21 attempts (76.2 percent).
Calumet (0-4, 0-4 CCAC), still looking for its first win, was led by senior guard Clark Shakeana, who just missed a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds.
"We're playing good basketball right now, everybody knows their role and we are looking to keep that momentum going," said GSU Head Coach Tonishea Mack.
GSU will hit the road for its next four games, beginning Tuesday with a trip to IU South Bend.
