Women's Basketball: Cougars Nip Jaguars in Overtime

FORT WAYNE, IN—In a game that featured 16 lead changes and 12 ties, Governors State lost in overtime, 63-60, to Saint Francis (IN) of the Crossroads League at the Hutzell Athletic Center Tuesday evening. It was the first meeting between the schools.

Angelique Cowan drove the baseline and banked a short jumper off the backboard to force overtime with three seconds left. The teams combined for 19 points during the extra five minutes. GSU claimed a 60-59 lead with 1:13 remaining on Jordan Towery's jumper before USF responded with four-straight points to seal the win.

Kennedy Weigt turned in a strong performance, sinking a season-high 17 points behind five 3-pointers. Sharnita Breeze reached double-figures for the 10th this season, compiling 15 points and Towery amassed 13 points along with a team-best eight rebounds. GSU committed just 10 turnovers and went 5-for-11 from the free throw line while USF finished 19-for-30 from the charity stripe.

Saint Francis (6-5) was led by the forward combo of Meleah Kunkel (20 points, eight rebounds) and Cassidy Crawford (19 points, nine rebounds).

GSU (5-8) returns to CCAC action on Friday, traveling to Davenport to take an 11-1 St. Ambrose squad.
