Jaguars Drop Conference Contest to Visiting St. Ambrose

UNIVERSITY PARK, IL—Governors State's first conference game of 2022 resulted in a 50-39 setback to first-place St. Ambrose Wednesday night at the Athletics and Recreation Center. GSU's score was its lowest since a December 15, 2016 contest at IU Northwest.

St. Ambrose (16-1, 9-1 CCAC) extended its win streak to 10 games, but it wasn't easy. The game turned into a defensive battle as GSU held SAU to its lowest point total of the year.

The contest was tied 31-31 with five minutes left in the third quarter when the Fighting Bees went on an 8-0 run that decided the contest.

Kennedy Weigt posted a team-high 11 points while Cashay Dixon and Kaitlin Adams came off the bench to sink a pair of 3-pointers each to finish with eight points. Threes are nothing new for Adams, who set the school season record with 49 treys two seasons ago.

SAU, which used just one sub on the night, was led by Jaynee Prestegaard's double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds).

Governors state (5-12, 4-6 CCAC) travels to Whiting, Indiana on Saturday to take on Calumet St. Joseph in the second meeting of the season between the schools.
