Jaguar Basketball Drops CCAC Contest at St. Francis

JOLIET, IL—Governors State encountered one of the top teams in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tuesday night, coming up short by seven points (70-63) to St. Francis at the Sullivan Center.

Cashay Dixon tallied a team-high 24 points in 34 minutes and is now averaging 16.4 points after five games with the team. Sharnita Breeze recorded a double-double, securing 12 points and 10 rebounds while Jordan Towery distributed six assists for the Jaguars, who shot 40.3 percent from the floor.

GSU (6-14, 5-8 CCAC) finished the contest with a strong 24-17 showing in the fourth quarter. The second quarter, however, was problematic as GSU scored nine points to trail by 11 at the half.

"We hung around tonight but you can't afford to have a bad quarter against a good team," said GSU Head Coach Tonishea Mack.

Jordan Pyle came off the bench to score 31 points for USF (16-6, 13-2 CCAC), which stands in third place in the CCAC.

GSU will have little time to dwell on tonight's result, traveling to Trinity International tomorrow to complete a back-to-back.
