Bio

Alec Sloan, in his first full season at GSU in 2025-26, is an experienced golf professional and dedicated player-development specialist with a strong background in coaching, instruction, and competitive play. Originally from Potsdam, New York, Alec discovered his passion for golf early in life and went on to compete at the collegiate level for Paul Smith’s College, where he developed the competitive drive and coaching mindset he carries into his career today.

Alec currently serves as the Lead Assistant Golf Professional and Player Services Manager at Idlewild Country Club, as well as an Assistant Golf Coach at Governors State University, where he works directly with collegiate athletes to refine their technique, elevate performance, and strengthen their competitive edge. He is well-known for producing meaningful student progress and is actively pursuing his PGA membership along with Level 1 AimPoint Certification.

Throughout his career, Alec has gained valuable coaching and operational experience at top clubs across the country. At Superstition Mountain Golf & Country Club in Arizona, he oversaw Ladies Day, Men’s Day, and built a thriving junior program. Before that, he served at Northern Spy Golf Club in Massachusetts, managing tournament operations and developing player-focused programming.

Alec also worked with Troon Golf at Capital Canyon Golf Club in Prescott, Arizona, where he taught players at all levels, managed golf operations, led men’s and ladies’ leagues, and launched another successful junior program. His time with Troon also included traveling to assist with opening new golf facilities nationwide, further strengthening his leadership, organization, and program-development skills.

With multiple coaching and teaching awards throughout his career, Alec is passionate about helping golfers reach their fullest potential—especially junior players and developing athletes. His coaching philosophy centers on building confident, disciplined, and well-rounded competitors who thrive both on and off the course.

Outside of golf, Alec enjoys watching hockey, playing golf recreationally, cooking, and experimenting with smoking meats. He lives in Illinois with his girlfriend, Kristin, and their golden doodle, Luna.
