Jose "Tony" Gonzalez Named Men's Soccer Coach at GovState 

GovState Athletic Director Tony Bates announced today the hiring of Jose "Tony" Gonzalez as the Head Men's Soccer Coach of the Jaguars.

Gonzalez has been men's and women's head soccer coach at South Suburban College in South Holland, IL. (compiling record of 287-157-39 in 25 seasons as men's coach at SSC and 101-31-8, nine years - women's coach).

His men's teams have played in five consecutive Region IV finals - 2021-2026 - NJCAA championships and he was named Region 4 Coach of the Year, 2022, and 2026.

Coach Tony played collegiate soccer for the UIC Flames and was named Academic All-Conference in 1995 while earning Soccer Student Athlete of the Year in 1997. In 2002, he also served as the top assistant at UIC. González has trained and coached players of all ages and levels. In the summer of 2003, he earned the USSF National "B" license.

Coach González is a 1997 graduate from University of Illinois at Chicago and has a Bachelors of Art in the Teaching of Spanish. In 1996-97.  1992-94 - Western Illinois University.

2008-2010 - MA Education Administration & Supervision, St. Xavier University, Chicago.

2004-Present - Gonzalez is the Director of South Suburban Soccer Academy - youth soccer program in south suburbs, Chicago, IL.
