SAINT AMBROSE SECOND HALF COMEBACK BEATS GSU 77-64
DAVENPORT, IOWA - The Saint Ambrose Bees erased a five-point halftime deficit and beat Governors State University 77-64 Wednesday night at Lee Lohman Arena.
The winners had four players score in double figures out-scoring the Jaguars 46-28 in the second half, hitting 10-23 three pointers in the game (7 in the second half) to put the home contest away late.
GSU (4-13, 4-5 CCAC) was out to a solid start in the first twenty minutes led by senior guard Adam Taylor who scored a game-high 20 points, 14 of them in the first half putting the Jaguars up 36-31 at the break.
Taylor's three point play tied the game at 45 all with 13 minutes remaining in the game before the Bees (3-8, 2-5) went on a huge second half scoring run to go ahead by double digits and avenging the Dec. 17 road loss in University Park to the Jags last month (72-62).
A Kyle Jackson dunk in the first half gave GSU its biggest lead, 23-15 halfway through the opening 10 minutes of play. The Jaguars shot 15-31 field goals in the half (48%) and limited Saint Ambrose to 35% shooting (9-25).
Taylor's 20 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals led the Jaguars and two others scored in double figures, sophomore guards Tai Walters-Whitaker with 12 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals and William Bates scored 10.
CCAC Conference play continues Saturday for the Jaguars with a home matchup in the ARC vs. Calumet St. Joseph, 3 p.m. start folllwing the 1 p.m. GSU womens game vs. the Crimson Wave.
