Governors State University Breaks Ground on State-of-the-Art $3.1 Million Soccer Stadium

University Park, IL - Governors State University is pleased to announce the groundbreaking ceremony for its new state-of-the-art soccer stadium, was held Monday, June 16th.
The $3.1 million facility will provide the GovState soccer programs with a premier venue to compete and train, enhancing the university's athletic programs and contributing to the campus's growth and development. Phase one of the soccer-only facility is set to be completed in time for the fall 2025 season and includes a FIFA rated turf playing surface, team shelters, scoreboard, and fan seating.
"This new soccer stadium will be a game-changer for our university and our community," said Tony Bates, Athletic Director. "We're excited to break ground on this state-of-the-art facility, which will provide our student-athletes with top-notch training and competition opportunities."
The project was championed by the late President Dr. Cheryl Green, whose vision for enhancing GSU's athletic programs and facilities has come to fruition through this groundbreaking initiative.The ceremony will bring together university officials, local dignitaries, and community members to celebrate this significant milestone.
