UNIVERSITY PARK, IL - Governors State University Athletic Director Tony Bates announced the hiring of Dan Piet as the Head Athletic Trainer for Jaguar Athletics, effective May 1, 2023. Piet has extensive athletic training and CCAC Conference experience working at Saint Xavier University with Cougar Athletics and the 500 SXU student-athletes since 2007. Piet has previous experience working with Bates and GSU Athletic Facility Manager Rick Romeli as all were working together at St Xavier in the 2010s.

Piet joined the SXU staff as assistant athletic trainer in the summer of 2007. He brought a wealth of experience to the position after serving as athletic trainer at numerous area high schools, including St. Joseph's and St. Rita. He also was an athletic trainer for AthletiCo, a fitness center located in Garfield Ridge near Chicago.

Piet earned his master's degree in 2002 in health and physical education from Illinois State University in Normal, Ill. He also has a bachelor's in exercise and sport science from Carthage College (Wis.). During his time at ISU, Piet worked as a graduate assistant for the Central Catholic High School football team.

Piet is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) and Illinois Athletic Trainers Association (IATA).
