Women's Basketball Places Three Student-Athletes on All-Academic Team
UNIVERSITY PARK, IL—Three members of the Governors State women's basketball team have been named to the All-Academic Team by the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Earning academic certificates were senior guard Jordan Towery, junior guard Angelique Cowan and senior guard Lotte Miller.
The CCAC All-Academic Team recognizes student-athletes with cumulative grade-point averages above 3.25 (entering the Spring 2022 term) who have been enrolled for one academic year and have completed at least 30 semester hours.
Towery set a GSU season record for assists (119) while leading the team in steals (48). She finished second in rebounds (5.2) and fourth in scoring (8.5), starting 23 of 25 games. Towery, who hit double-figure points in 11 games, is working towards a degree in public administration.
A criminal justice major, Cowan finished second in team assists (63) and registered five double-figure scoring contests. She notched 20 points against Holy Cross on November 17 and dished seven assists versus IU South Bend on Valentine's Day. A two-time all-academic team recipient, Cowan saw action in a career-high 28 games.
Miller appeared in 28 of 29 games and shot 76.2 percent (32-for-42) from the free throw line. She pulled down seven rebounds versus Lawrence Tech and Roosevelt and made 10-straight free throws on two occasions. A criminal justice major, Miller was the GSU Iron Woman Academic Award winner for the Fall 2021 semester.
