"This was another fantastic day for GSU track and field. This weekend, the Jaguars competed at Olivet Nazarene University and Daniel Zavala went to Grand Valley State University to try and hit the 10k national mark. On the men's side Clark Fremouw placed 2nd in discus and is now ranked 28th in the country. Sean O'Brien took 1st overall in the javelin throw and achieved a new personal best throw of 45.52 meters. Cameron Cypress and Chris Biederstedt also hit new pr's for javelin. On the running side of things, Ian French placed 3rd in the 3k steeple chase and ran 10:11 in his first attempt at the event. Elija Jones also stepped up big time with a 10:34 personal best in the event. Both Ian and Elija will be competing at conference in the event. The first ever GSU 4x100 was ran at Olivet as well. It featured James Johnson, Devinn Jones, Jamaar Ross, and Harry Jimenez. In the men's 1500, Alex Ortiz and Alejandro Vieyra ran personal bests with 4:13 and 4:23 marks, respectively. Colin Jameson and Harold Hunley III also hit big personal bests in the 1500. Devinn Jones, Harry Jimenez, James Johnson, and Annan Houston all hit season bests in the 100-meter dash. Parker Griffin ran outstanding during his 800 race, and he will be competing in the 4x800 this upcoming weekend at conference. Ryan Gayton hit a big pr in the 3k with his 9:52 effort. Daniel Zavala competed at Grand Valley this Saturday in the 10k as well. He was able to hit a 31:06 10k mark, ranking him 19th in the country. He will have to wait a couple more weeks to see if the effort will be good enough to punch his ticket to Nationals in Asheville, North Carolina. Daniel put out an incredible effort and finished 2nd place overall at the meet. It was a gutsy performance and he represented GSU well."
"On the women's side, there were plenty of outstanding efforts as well. Yahaira Rodriguez ran 5:00 in the 1500 meters and achieved a new personal best for herself. Sydney Bonham and Jinni Jimenez also hit season bests for themselves in the 1500. In the women's 800 Sydney Bonham, Paola Alcantar, and Jinni Jimenez all hit season bests. Diana Perez was also able to break 3 minutes for the 800 as well. In the women's 3k, Kaylee O'Sullivan had a huge race, running 10:39 and finishing 1st overall in the meet. She is currently ranked 9th in the country for the 3k. Ava Tomala also ran a personal best in the 3k as well, running a 12:32. Overall, I was pleased with the efforts put out this weekend at Olivet and Grand Valley."
"I think our runners will be peaking at the right moment as we get closer towards conference and the last chance invite in Joliet. Conference will be hosted by St. Francis and held at Joliet Memorial Stadium on Friday, May 1st and Saturday May 2nd."
