Sophia Flowers Qualifies For Outdoor Track NAIA Nationals in the 10K - Sets School Record - Outdoor Nationals in May, North Carolina -
Named CCAC Conference Outdoor Track - Runner of the Week -
GovState Head Men's and Women's Track Coach John Niendorf on Sophia Flowers accomplishments:
"We, as a coaching staff, are incredibly proud of Sophia Flowers. This young woman ran the race of her life in the 10k and was able to qualify herself for Nationals. She shattered the previous school record with her 36:19 10k performance. The 10k is one of the most mentally taxing races a competitor can do on the track. And she remained posed throughout the event, despite being a freshman who had never competed in this race before. Flowers ran calm and composed, working with two other athletes trying to break their schools' records as well. The freshman was tough and did not back down to pain of the race."
"Hitting a National mark on your first outdoor race is incredible and she made the entire team, coaching staff, and school proud today. We are ecstatic for her and cannot wait to watch her run the 10k at Asheville, North Carolina in late May. She will compete on May 21st at approximately 7:20 CT," Coach Niendorf said.
