Men's Cross Country Finishes 7th at Midwest Intercollegiate
BOURBONNAIS, IL—After a two-week layoff, Governors State men's cross country team returned to action Friday, taking part in the second annual Midwest Intercollegiate at Aspen Ridge Golf Course.
The final team standings saw seventh-ranked Olivet Nazarene led the field with a score of 18, placing ahead of Augustana (50), Grace (94), Greenville (96), Holy Family, formerly Silver Lake (131), Joliet JC (177) and Governors State (208).
Freshman Manny Perezchica posted GSU's fastest time for the second-straight meet, clocking 33:34.6 over the 8-kilometer course. Nick Bushey finished 11 seconds behind at 33:45.50. Also scoring for the Jaguars were Daniel Perez (36:31.5), Omari Coleman (37:53.0), Cristian Espinoza (39:35.8) and senior Matthew McNeil, who made his season debut.
"I thought our guys showed their mental and physical toughness running in blistering heat against some of the best teams in the CCAC," said GSU Head Coach Kevin Kredens.
GSU will have another two-week break before traveling to Wisconsin Lutheran for the Warrior Invitational on October 5.
