Arteaga Joins Jaguars Cross Country Program

UNIVERSITY PARK, IL — Oscar Arteaga, a two-year performer at the College of Lake County, has re-signed a National Letter of Intent with the Governors State men's cross country team. He is the first cross country recruit to commit for 2020.

A Round Lake native, Arteaga was an academic all-conference selection in cross country and track at Lake County, where he received an associate degree in 2019. He clocked an eight-kilometer time of 34:13.98 at the Skyway Conference Championships as the Lancers captured the team title. His PR with the Lancers was 32:30. He also competed in cross country at Round Lake Senior High School, graduating in 2016.

The son of Lilia and Elias Arteaga, Oscar plans to major in criminal justice at GSU. He will have two years of eligibility with the Jaguars.

"Oscar is going to be a good middle–of-the-pack runner for us for the next few years," said GSU Head Coach Kevin Kredens. "He has college experience and has been doing some road racing. He's a quiet runner but very conscientious and a good student as well."
