GSU Men Place Sixth at Fighting Bee Invitational
BETTENDORF, IA—Returning to the site of last year's CCAC Championships, Governors State finished sixth at the Fighting Bee Invitational, held Saturday at the eight-kilometer Crow Creek Course.
The Invitational title went to Trinity Christian (43), which finished ahead of Mount Mercy (45), St. Ambrose (56), Waubonsee CC (102), Carl Sandburg (121) and Governors State (171).
Pacing the Jaguars on a chilly, breezy day was Manny Perezchica, who turned in a time of 32:24.2 to claim 48th place. Teammate Nick Bushey wasn't far behind with a personal record of 32:39.4. Freshman Omari Coleman, who has established himself as GSU's No. 3 runner, clocked a PR of 34:15.1. Cristian Espinoza (36:14.4) and Daniel Perez (36:28.1) finished back-to-back with Matthew McNeil (41:14.2) and Danny Nguyen (43:10.0) completing GSU's lineup. Nguyen was making his debut with the Orange and Black.
"Our men ran a good race against tough NAIA schools in the cold, windy weather. We had two runners achieve PR's," said GSU Head Coach Kevin Kredens.
Up next for GSU is a trip to the Skyhawk Invitational next Saturday.
