Women's Golf Opens Season at Troll Classic

WORTH, IL—The eighth season of women's varsity golf began Wednesday as Governors State sent a pair of student-athletes to the Troll Classic, held at the Water's Edge Golf Club.

Kylie Maloney carded a 116 score and first-year golfer Kelsey Brown finished with a 129 on the par-72 course that played at 6,055 yards. GSU did not record a team score at the event that saw Judson (388) out-distance Trinity Christian by 11 strokes. Taylor Martin of Trinity Christian and Judson's Hannah Ogden shared medalist honors with 88s.

"I'm very proud of Kelsey's performance, she's been playing golf for only five weeks and showed well on a tough course. I'm pleased we have someone with Kylie's leadership as well," said GSU Head Coach Fred Hawkins.

It's a short turnaround for the Jaguars who travel to Galena, Illinois on Thursday for the Clarke Invitational.
