ESports Summaries - Jaguars Earn Forfeit Win For Second Triumph of 2025-26 Season
ESports Summaries For Week of September 23-27 - Jaguars Earn Forfeit Win For Second Triumph of 2025-26 Season
Summaries from GovState ESports Head Coach Kareem Badr
Valorant vs Lawrence Tech University NACE Varsity Premier
The Jaguars ran into a powerhouse in Lawrence Tech, dropping the series with scores of 0–13 and 1–13. Otto Foronda looked for openings with aggressive entries but rarely found room to convert against Lawrence Tech's structured defenses. Blake Sanders worked to establish space with smokes and utility, but the overwhelming pace and coordination from Lawrence Tech often neutralized setups before they could take effect. While the result was one-sided, it highlighted critical areas for growth—particularly mid-round coordination, composure under pressure, and efficiency in trading out fights. The experience serves as a benchmark for where the team must elevate in order to compete at the Varsity Premier level.
Marvel Rivals vs University of North Carolina Greensboro
Governors State's scheduled Marvel Rivals match against UNC Greensboro ended in a forfeit by the opposition, granting the Jaguars a default victory. Although the team missed the chance to showcase their preparation, the win contributes to their record and keeps morale high. The spotlight now turns to their next NECC contest against the University of Waterloo, where the Jaguars will aim to translate practice into on-stage execution and secure a statement victory.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate vs Lakeland University and Ohio Wesleyan University Summary
It is Week 4 of competition for the Smash team and things are heating up. This past week, the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team had two games on consecutive days going up against Lakeland University and Ohio Wesleyan University. Although both competition days ended in losses the devil is in the details when it comes to the improvement and stats during the games.
Against Lakeland University, Governors State started out strong sending in Aden Pastrana as the team's starter, he quickly KO'ed Ness and King K. Rool with his Little Mac, only then being eliminated by Lakeland's Sephiroth. Only in Smash can the video game equivalent of Rocky be taken out by a character with unstoppable power! Governors State sent in Allen Atkin's Fox, using speed and overall patience and pressure to make quick work of the Sephiroth. It wouldn't be long until Fox would catch a cold, with Lakeland University bringing in their Dr. Mario who gave Fox a prescription for "Git Gud." With Ronin Harrington's control over the stage with Toon Link and their many projectiles, Governors State claimed victory for one game out of the match. Unfortunately for Governors State although the stocks were close it was not enough to snag another game victory ending that night with 1-2 score for Lakeland University. Despite the loss, the Smash coach for Governors State had this to say, "This was our first official game for us in the NECC and these are completely different teams that we have in our Rust Belt Conference for NACE. I think the fact that we were toe to toe with a new conference shows our improvement in that regard."
The second game set for the week was for NACE and would go up against Ohio Wesleyan University. Governors State had, before this game, acquired a new recruit named Adotey Doh. Ohio Wesleyan proved to be a formidable foe for Governors State University as their Snake player put a stop to most of Governors State's momentum even with the addition of Adotey Doh's Sonic on the team, eliminating ¾ of their roster. The second round came and Governors State would not go down without a fight. Although Adotey fell short during the first round he proved in the second round why he was recruited in the first place, eliminating the last of Ohio Wesleyan's Joker and getting the full "run back" with the Snake, only coming up short one stock. The biggest VIP for the round has to go to Dylan Swets's King K. Rool coming in to eliminate the Snake, going on to eliminate Wesleyan's Yoshi player and only losing to Wesleyan's Donkey Kong after what felt like a marathon of catching, unfortunately for this marathon Wesleyan was just a bit farther in lead coming in with a victory over Governors State.
This may be the fourth week for competition here for Governors State University but all of this is yet another stepping stone for victories to come for Governors State. Not only did the Smash team get a new recruit, one teammate stepped up to commentate for the Ohio Wesleyan stream. Shoutout to Tyler Odems for stepping up and commentating for the first time ever. We're at the halfway point, but in terms of what's to come in the journey ahead, Governors State still has not crossed the finish line, and there's still more to come. - (Coach Kareem Badr)
