GovState ESports Team Continues Busy Season One Schedule - Livestream Schedule For Week -

Coach Kareem Badr competition summaries from last week:

Week 5 of competitions for the Governors State Smash Bros. team was one of intense emotions and results, with this week only consisting of one match in the NECC League; this time against Illinois Wesleyan University. Governors State's Smash team really wanted to take home the win this week but unfortunately came up just short of 5 and 4 stocks in rounds 2 and 3 respectively.

Onto some of the highlights from this match: During Round 1 Ronin's Toon Link came in clutch during the last games of the set. With a two stock lead and Ronin being the last player available in the roster to play, Ronin came back with a full turnaround and a win for the first round against Illinois Wesleyan's Bayonetta and Joker.

During Round 2 although Aden's Little Mac, as starter, was able to go toe-to-toe against Illinois Wesleyan's R.O.B., R.O.B. took the win for the first game. With Ronin following up and taking out the R.O.B., the same could not be said for their Mr. Game and Watch who was able to take out Ronin and Dylan's King K. Rool, with the new recruit AJ coming in for the rescue, finally taking out Game and Watch with his Sonic. It still wasn't enough to get a Round 2 win as Illinois Wesleyan sent in a Mii Swordfighter to take out AJ's Sonic moving into Round 3.

Round 3 started out with Illinois Wesleyan's Kazuya and Governors State's Sonic going blow for blow, with AJ's Sonic coming out on top for the first game in the round. IWU sent in their Mii Swordfighter to retaliate as Sonic only had one stock left and they probably knew that their Mii Swordfighter would have no problem taking Sonic out, given last round. Mii Swordfighter would then go on to take out Aden's Little Mac and finally face Ronin's Toon Link. With Little Mac reducing Swordfighter to one stock, it was Toon Link's turn to take him out, which is what happened, but not without the casualty of a single stock taken from Toon Link. Toon Link would then face off against IWU's R.O.B. yet again, having a battle of projectiles and zoning with R.O.B. coming out on top. R.O.B. would then take out Dylan's King K. Rool ending Round 3 and the match entirely.

Governors State's Smash Bros. team did secure one win in the first round and with Illinois Wesleyan being a Top 25 University in the nation, according to TechChase Esports, it is safe to say that this Smash Team is doing incredible work together as an emerging competitor in the collegiate scene. With how close Governors State's team has been against IWU it is only a matter of time when Governors State will rise above and also become one of the Top 25 one day. Until then the Governors State Smash Bros. team will continue to train for the following weeks.
