GSU's Marius, TCC's Cilladi Guide Important Wins, Gain Men's Basketball Weekly Recognition
CHICAGO --- Leading their respective teams to a pair of important league victories each during the seven-day period ending Jan. 31, Governors State University's Maxwell Marius (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) and Trinity Christian College's Aiden Cilladi (Oviedo, Fla.) have been named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Players of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Marius put up 21.5 points per game on 57.1 percent shooting to gain CCAC Offensive Player of the Week accord. He also registered averages of 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.0 blocks over the pair of contests.
The senior guard posted nearly identical numbers in both wins, beginning with his 22-point, 4-rebound, 4-assist, 3-steal, 2-block game in an 81-80 double-overtime victory over Olivet Nazarene University last Wednesday. That was followed by his 21 points, seven boards, four assists and two steals in Saturday's 78-65 decision over Viterbo University.
In the latter affair, Marius hit nine of his 12 shots from the field for a 75 percent mark.
With the two wins, Governors State maintained its first-place standing in the league. The Jaguars are 15-7 overall and 11-3 in the CCAC.
Cilladi claimed his second CCAC Defensive Player of the Week award this season by averaging 6.0 defensive rebounds, 2.5 steals and 0.5 blocks per game. He also contributed 7.0 total rebounds and 19.0 points per contest, not to mention sinking a game-winning basket at the buzzer in a 75-73 victory at Indiana University South Bend last Wednesday.
The sophomore guard/forward totaled 22 points, eight rebounds (seven defensive) and one steal in the IUSB win. He then had four steals, five defensive rebounds (six total), one block, five assists and 16 points in an 82-68 victory opposite Judson University on Saturday.
Trinity Christian boosted its overall record to two games over the .500 mark (12-10) with the pair of wins. Against league foes, the Trolls are now 9-5.
