Weekly Men's VB Honors Go To VU's Myhre, GSU's Byas, Lapa

CHICAGO --- Viterbo University's Styrk Myhre (Caledonia, Mich.) and Governor State University's Jared Byas (Frankfort, Ill.) and Lucas Lapa (Sao Paulo, Brazil) have claimed Week 4 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Volleyball Player of the Week honors, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Myhre logged his first CCAC Attacker of the Week award after hitting at a .696 clip and not committing one attacking error over two matches.  That resulted in a 3.2 kills-per-set average in the V-Hawks' 1-1 week.

The sophomore middle hitter totaled eight kills in both a four-set loss to St. Ambrose University on Friday and a three-set win over Calumet College of St. Joseph on Saturday.  He authored attacking percentages of .667 and .727, respectively, in the two matches.

Viterbo is 1-1 in CCAC play and 2-10 overall.

Byas and Lapa led Governors State to a perfect 3-0 week with the former using a 4.9 digs-per-set average to notch CCAC Defender of the Week accord.  He also registered a .978 reception percentage with success on 44-of-45 chances.

The junior libero delivered no less than 14 digs in each of the three matches, topped by his 18 in a four-set win over Culver-Stockton College (Mo.) on Friday.  From an average standpoint, his 17 digs (5.67) in a straight-set win over Olivet Nazarene University on Thursday topped the charts.

Byas also produced six service aces over the three matches.

A career-best 53 assists in one match wrote the ticket for Lapa to claim CCAC Setter of the Week recognition.  That eventually led to his overall 10.7 assists-per-set average.  He also averaged 1.4 digs per set.

Lapa's 53 assists (13.25 avg.) came in the four-set win over Culver-Stockton, where he also averaged 1.75 digs per set.  The sophomore provided another 29 assists versus Olivet Nazarene and 25 against Indiana University East on Tuesday, both of which were three-set victories.

Winners of four matches in a row, Governors State is 6-7 overall and 1-0 against league competition.

Other Attacker Nominees: Pablo Pascual (Governors State), Matt Pennala (Saint Xavier), Mason Snodgrass (Judson).

Other Defender Nominees: Max Dugan (Viterbo), Andres Velez (Saint Xavier).
