GSU's Pascual, Byas, ONU's Gonzalez Pick Up Men's Volleyball Weekly Recognition

CHICAGO --- Guiding their respective teams to unbeaten weeks, Governors State University's Pablo Pascual (Madrid, Spain) and Jared Byas (Frankfort, Ill.) and Olivet Nazarene University's Tomas Gonzalez (Bogota, Colombia) have been named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's volleyball weekly award winners.  The league office made the announcement on Tuesday.

Gonzalez earned his second CCAC Setter of the Week award after averaging 10.5 assists per set to go along with a 2.00 digs average.  He also provided eight service aces and four blocks. 

The senior had a monster match in a 3-1 decision over St. Ambrose University on Thursday.  In that contest, he totaled 56 assists (14.0 avg.) with nine digs, four service aces and two blocks.

On Saturday, Gonzalez totaled 23 and 26 assists, respectively, in straight-set wins over Calumet College of St. Joseph and Aquinas College (Mich.).  He also recorded nine digs and three aces in the Calumet St. Joseph match.

Olivet Nazarene's three-win week put it at 9-11 overall and 2-3 against the league.

Byas also gained his second weekly award as the league's top defender.  He averaged 4.71 digs per week and was perfect on 46 passes.

The junior libero averaged 5.75 digs (23 total) with 36 receptions in a four-set victory opposite St. Ambrose University last Tuesday.  That was followed by his ten digs and ten receptions in a three-set win over Trinity Christian College on Thursday.

A .435 hitting mark and 3.86 kills per set earned Pascual CCAC Attacker of the Week accord.  He also amassed 13 digs and seven blocks over his seven sets played. 

The freshman outside hitter recorded 14 kills, eight digs and four blocks in the win over St. Ambrose.  He then closed out the week with 13 kills, five digs and three blocks in the Trinity Christian victory.

The two conference wins put Governors State at 5-1 in the league and 11-9 overall.

Other Setter Nominees: Logan Amdur (Viterbo), Cameron Daniels (Saint Xavier), Elias Stommel (Governors State).
