Women's Golf Signs Julian for 2019-20
UNIVERSITY PARK, IL — Having just completed its season a week ago, the Governors State women's golf team has begun preparations for 2019-20, signing Savanah Julian to a National Letter of Intent.
Julian's athletic background is tied to softball, where she played two seasons (2017, 2018) at Moraine Valley Community College. Playing catcher, third base and in the outfield, she received the team's Leadership Award.
At Harold L. Richards High School in Oak Lawn, Julian earned all-conference softball honors three straight years and was named to the National Honor Society.
A native of Crete, Savanah grew up playing golf with her father, Jamie Julian. She will have two years of eligibility at GSU and plans to major in early childhood education.
"Savanah doesn't have a ton of golf experience, but she's been playing golf her entire life," said GSU Head Coach Mark Haines, who introduced softball standout Emily Bell to golf and watched her shoot a school-record 88 for the Jaguars.
"At GSU Savanah is going to have an opportunity to excel at the sport she has grown to love," continued Haines. "She has good leadership skills and is outstanding academically — I think she may be one of our best recruits ever from an athletic point of view."
