GSU Women's Soccer Announces 2020-21 Recruiting Class

UNIVERSITY PARK, IL—On the eve of its second varsity campaign, the Governors State women's soccer program has announced its recruiting class for 2020-21. Head Coach Ante Cop heavily recruited the high school ranks, bringing in eight first-years (and 10 players total) who will provide a foundation for the next four years.

Jillian Basile, MF
A 5-foot-6 outside midfielder, Basile played four varsity seasons at Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School. She will reunite with BBCHS alumnae Avery Fountain, Autumn Hollowell and Zoie Langlois.

Chloe Cantave, MF
Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Cantave chose to continue her soccer career in the U.S. because: "I could not pass up the opportunity of an exciting new soccer program."

Brenna Castillo, MF
The freshman from Bourbonnais joins high school teammate Basile in doning the Orange and Black. Castillo twice earned all-conference honors at BBCHS.

Avery Damjanovic, F
The first recruit from Florida, Damjanovic (pronounced: Dam-yawn-o-vich) was named Offensive Player of the Year at Wiregrass Ranch High School in 2019.

Isabelle Deane, MF
A center defensive midfielder, Deane earned two varsity letters at Oak Forest High School. She plans to major in nursing.

Melissa Guerrero, D
Guerrero returns to the pitch for her first time since competing for South Suburban CC during the 2015 and 2016 campaigns. In her two years in South Holland, Guerrero started 24 games, compiling two goals and three assists.

Lizbeth Lopez, MF
Lopez continues the recruiting pipeline to South Suburban CC, where she started all 27 games during her two-year career (2016, 2017). Five of her teammates at South Suburban would land up in a Jaguar uniform.

Jaelyn McNeese, F
A transfer from Wabash Valley College, McNeese was a captain for the boys team at Lebanon High School, where she played three seasons.

Eden Suda, GK
Suda stands 5-foot-11 and will have four years to develop her talent in net. She previously played for the Sockers FC club program out of Palatine.

Halia Tudor, D
An anchor on defense, Tudor twice earned all-conference honors and was a two-time captain at Kankakee High School.

In March, GSU signed its first recruit in Emely Oviedo, a defender from Bloom High School.

"I am excited to see this group of players on the field this February," said Cop, whose team had it's season moved from the fall to spring. "We have addressed our need for speed on the wings and goal-scoring up top. I have a feeling we are going to surprise some people this fall."
