Women's Soccer Drops 4-1 Decision to Holy Cross

SOUTH BEND, IN—Playing for the first time in 11 days, the Governors State women's soccer team fell to Holy Cross, 4-1, Saturday at TCU School Field.

After Holy Cross scored 4:43 into the game, GSU responded on Avery Damjanovic's first goal of the season on a throw-in from Zoie Langlois at 9:33.

The contest remained deadlocked until just before halftime when HC struck on Lauren Cernak's goal. The Fighting Saints added two second-half goals to move their overall record to 4-2-0 and 3-1-0 in the CCAC.

Damjanovic accounted for six of GSU's eight team shots as the home side finished with a 24-8 advantage in that category. Eden Suda made the start in net, making eight saves in 69 minutes before giving way to Gaby Smola, who turned away three shots in 21 minutes of action.

"Holy Cross is a great team and I don't think the score is indictive of how close the game was," said GSU Head Coach Ante Cop. "It was good to get that first goal of the year and we had a couple of chances that went wide. We looked much better this year than we did against this team last season."

GSU (0-2-0, 0-2-0 CCAC) will play its third-straight road game on Tuesday, traveling to St. Francis for a 1 p.m. start at Joliet Memorial Stadium.
