Jaguars Drop Season Opener at Trinity International
WHEELING, IL—The second-year Governors State women's soccer team kicked off its 2021 campaign with a 2-0 loss to Trinity International Tuesday afternoon at the Heritage Park Athletic Complex.
With the field surrounded by snow banks, GSU kept TIU at bay, holding the Trojans scoreless until the 82nd minute when Abigail Olsson struck, followed less than two minutes later by a tally from Cameron Hunter off a corner kick. Hunter had an assist on the first goal and finished with three points.
The Jaguars inserted seven new players in the starting lineup with Avery Damjanovic taking two shots, including one on goal. Goalkeeper Eden Suda made her collegiate debut, making 12 saves.
"With everything taken into consideration it was a very positive start to the season," said GSU Head Coach Ante Cop. "Although the result didn't go the way we wanted, we did extremely well for large periods of the game."
GSU returns to the pitch for its home opener on Saturday, playing host to Roosvelt at 11 a.m. at the Sportsplex in Crown Point, Indiana.
