Damjanovic Named CCAC Freshman of the Year
UNIVERSITY PARK, IL—Forward Avery Damjanovic of the Governors State women's soccer team has been named Freshman of the Year by the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. She is the first GSU student-athlete in any sport to win that award. In addition, Damjanovic becomes the first Jaguar women's soccer player to earn all-conference honors, securing a spot on the All-CCAC Second Team.
A native of Wesley Chapel, Florida, Damjanovic (pronounced: Dam-yawn-o-vich) set school season records for goals (7) and points (14). She scored in four consecutive contests and recorded two-goal performances in back-to-back-to-back games. She was named CCAC Offensive Player of the Week on March 16 and produced game-winning goals against St. Francis and Judson.
A starter in all 10 games, Damjanovic finished sixth in goals (0.70 average) and 10th in scoring (1.40 points average) among CCAC players.
"I'm so incredibly happy for Avery, her teammates and the coaching staff. She was the catalyst behind our best results this year," said Head Coach Ante Cop. "Avery had a great year and she has an ever brighter future with our program."
