GSU Volleyball Splits Matches at Manchester Invitational
N. MANCHESTER, IN—It was back-to-back five-setters for Governors State Volleyball, which went 1-1 on the opening night of the Manchester Invitational Friday at Stauffer-Wolf Arena. The tournament concludes with two more matches on Saturday.
The Jaguars, who are appearing at the Manchester Invite for the fifth time, recorded a five-set victory (25-21, 25-21, 17-25, 13-25, 17-15) over NCAA Division III opponent Franklin in the first match of a doubleheader. It was the first time the schools had met on the court as GSU won for the first time in 2022.
Fifth-year seniors Dunja Tatic (16 kills) and Ivana Novakovic (15 kills) led the way with Yareli Pacheco providing 36 assists and Julia Reyes collecting 16 digs. Franklin (4-4) had four players with eight or more kills.
In the nightcap, GSU (1-5) went up two games on host Manchester before falling in five sets by the scores of 18-25, 25-23, 26-28, 25-20, 15-11.
Tatic stockpiled 23 kills and 22 digs and hit .347 for the match. Novakovic finished with 15 kills and Pacheo distributed 38 assists. Manchester (6-6) was led by Carley Camp's 14 kills in a match that concluded at 11:22 p.m. EDT.
GSU will take on arch-rival IU Northwest at 10 a.m. and Dominican at Noon tomorrow.
