Women's Cross Country Takes Part in Midwest Intercollegiate

BOURBONNAIS, IL—It's hard to believe but the Governors State women's cross country program has hit the halfway mark of the season after competing at the fourth annual Midwest Intercollegiate Friday at the Aspen Ridge Golf Course.

Host Olivet Nazarene, ranked 22nd nationally, won the meet by a whopping 89 points over runner-up Bethel. Governors State was one of five teams that did not score in the 16-team field.

All three GSU runners set personal-records at the meet. For the third time this year, Jacqueline Navarrete led the Jaguars across the finish line, placing 59th overall by clocking 21:46.6 to lower her personal-best time by 1 minute, 14 seconds. The effort moved her into third place on GSU's all-time performers list. Elizabeth Rios registered a time of 23:57.0, eclipsing her previous best time of 24:30.6. Bailey Honn finished the flat 5K course in 25:16.4—the first time she's ever been under 26 minutes.

"Our women's team had phenomenal efforts by Jackie, Liz and Baily all of whom ran solid PRs," said Head Coach Kevin Kredens. "They all had really great attitudes and this is going to build their confidence moving forward."

GSU has three weeks off from competition before taking part in the Bethel Invitational on October 8 in South Bend.
