Jaguar Runners Compete at Bethel Invitational

SOUTH BEND, IN—Governors State returned to the trails for the first time in three weeks to participate at the Bethel Invitational, which drew a large field of teams Friday to St. Patrick's County Park. Four teams in the NAIA Top 25 took part as 15th-ranked Indiana Wesleyan captured team honors with 48 points. Grace (79) edged top-ranked St. Francis (80) for second place; Governors State did not score.

Running in 75-degree weather with 61 percent humidity, the Jaguars were represented by four runners. Jacqueline Navarrete led the Jaguars across the finish line for the fourth time this season, finishing 126th overall with a time of 23:20.30 over the 5K course.

Elizabeth Rios completed the wooded circuit in 25:45.10 as she tied the school record for most career race appearences (15). Rios finished five spots ahead of Bailey Honn, who logged a time of 26:05.60. Ashley Seyden (Harwood), a former Jaguar volleyball player who joined the team this week, finished with a time of 37:38.90.

"Our top three, Jackie, Liz and Bailey had a tough race on a wet course but overall they are still ahead of where they were last year," stated GSU Head Coach Kevin Kredens. "We have two weeks to sharpen up for the NAIA Challenge and a month to prepare for what will be a very challenging conference meet."

GSU will have two weeks to prepare for another tough meet—the Great Lakes Challenge to be hosted by Aquinas on October 23.
