Men's Cross County Competes at Midwest Intercollegiate

BOURBONNAIS, IL—Lenny Baumann recorded another Top-10 finish as Governors State took part in the fourth annual Midwest Intercollegiate, held Friday with temperatures in the 80s at the Aspen Ridge Golf Course. GSU did not score at the event which was won by host Olivet Nazarene.

Baumann, who lives in Bourbonnais, had never run at Aspen Ridge, but knew the course having played golf there. It worked to his benefit as he covered the eight-kilometer circuit in 26:55.02 to finish eighth overall out of 131 competitors.

Also competing for GSU were soccer players Eric Espinoza (40:14.6) and Miguel Navarrete (40:14.9), who ran side-by-side. Dante Miller completed the Jaguar lineup, finishing with a time of 45:18.0. Today's meet offered a chance for GSU runners to get a sneak preview of a course (and new layout) that will host the CCAC Championships in November.

"Lenny again showed he wants to keep getting better, he really runs with flair," stated GSU Head Coach Kevin Kredens. "Much like our women's squad, we have some runners who are trying to get through injuries."

GSU will have some time to heal as its next meet isn't until October 8, the Bethel Invitational in South Bend.
