GSU Participates at Bethel Invitational

SOUTH BEND, IN—Governors State waited out a 1-hour, 20-minute lightning delay and a torrential downpour before running under sunny skies at the Bethel Invitational, held Friday at St. Patrick's County Park. Five teams in the NAIA Top 25 competed at the event.

On a soggy course ideal for mudders, No.1-ranked Indiana Wesleyan won the team event with a perfect score of 15, claiming the top five individual spots.

GSU's Lenny Baumann led the race through six kilometers and added to his t-shirt collection with an eighth-place finish, registering a time of 26:34.90. He now owns the three-best 8K times in school history.

Miguel Navarrete navigated through the forest terrain in 37:41.60, followed by Dante Miller (39:46.40) and Daniel Jonna (50:35.20), who took part in his first 8K race.

"Lenny again proved that he can race with some of the best in the NAIA and in our conference," said GSU Head Coach Kevin Kredens. "I don't think that Lenny has run his best race yet. He said he still wants to get better, and he will. The rest of our team will hopefully start to gel over these next few weeks before conference."

GSU travels to Michigan to take part in the Great Lakes Challenge on October 23.
