GSU Men's Soccer Signs International Midfielder
UNIVERSITY PARK, IL — Governors State Men's Soccer continues to add pieces to its roster puzzle with the addition of junior college transfer Hamzat Sanni out of South Suburban College.
The 5-foot-8 midfielder started 36 of 38 games the past two seasons for SSC, compiling six goals (including two game-winners) and nine assists for 21 points. He also served as team captain, leading the Bulldogs to a two-year record of 26-13.
Born in Lagos, Lagos State, Nigeria, Sanni becomes the third international recruit to join the Jaguars, joining English goalkeeper Saahil Kapoor and Ukrainian forward Zakhar Shkidchenko.
The son of Mariam and Ramon Sanni, Hamzat (pronounced Ham-zat) plans to major in business administration. He will have two years of eligibility with the Jaguars. Accompanying Hamzat at his signing Thursday was his wife, Debo Akinsanya.
"Hamzat is a gifted and accomplished player," said GSU Head Coach Matt Eggert. "His combination of physical and technical gifts give him the versatility needed to turn a game from anywhere on the field."
