Gaytan Brings Winning Pedigree to GSU Soccer

OSWEGO, IL — Governors State has tapped into a highly-successful Illinois soccer program to secure its latest recruit, a 5-foot-10 defender out of Oswego High School by the name of Daniel Gaytan.

Gaytan started three seasons at Oswego, who under coach Gaspar Arias, went undefeated in conference play in back-to-back years. This past fall Gaytan helped the Panthers compiled an 18-3-2 record (the team's most wins in 14 seasons), highlighted by a 17-game unbeaten streak, an IHSA Class 3A Regional championship, and a trip to a sectional semifinal. OHS also captured the U.S. Army Bracket of the PepsiCo Showdown against a national field. Daniel is the son of Rosa and Ricardo Gaytan.

"Danny is a proven winner who gained valuable experience playing a pivotal role on one of the highest-octane offenses in the state," stated GSU Head Coach Matt Eggert. "His tireless work may have gone unsung but he was pivotal to Oswego's success. We look for him to continue to mature as a player and ultimately contribute in the same fashion at GSU."

Gaytan's signing gives GSU 21 players for the upcoming inaugural season.
