GovState (2-0) outscored St. Mary-Woods 23-7 in the third quarter and 40-19 in the second half to break away from a close first half to win game 2 of the weekend tournament at ONU.
Davina Smith led GSU in scoring with 21 points, Cencere McDaniel had 17 points 5 rebounds and Journae Cotton had 11 rebounds and Peyton Greenwood had 11 points, 5 assists in the win.
Next up, the 2025-26 season opener Weds night, 530 PM Ring Ceremony prior to the 6 PM game vs. Aquinas (MI). The 2024-25 CCAC Championship women's basketball team will be awarded championship rings.
GSU will be honoring and celebrating the 2024-25 record-setting 29-6 CCAC Conference championship team that advanced to the Final 8 of the NAIA National Tournament last March.

Women's Basketball Wins Season Opener 67-66 vs. MVNU @Olivet Nazarene Tournament
GSU beat Mount Vernon Nazarene (OH) Friday night to open the season with a big win at ONU Tournament. Cencere McDaniel hit the go-ahead free throw with four seconds left and Alexis Warren had a blocked shot in the final seconds to key the victory. McDaniel had a double-double 26 points, 12 rebounds to lead the offense and Davina Smith had 21 points for the winners.
Governors State (1-0) plays vs. St. Mary's of the Woods (IN) in game two of the tournament for the Jaguars, 12 noon CST start in Bourbonnais.

GovState 2025-26 Women's Basketball Season Opens Up Oct. 31-Nov. 1 @Olivet Nazarene Tournament - Chick-Fil-A Classic in Bourbonnais, IL - 5PM CST
The Jaguars open the season on Friday, Oct. 31 vs. Mount Vernon Nazarene University (OH) -15-14 last year and Head coach Lauryn VanHoose will be in her first season at MVNU after coming over from Ohio Christian University in the offseason.
GovState Head Coach Tonishea Mack is in her eighth season with the Jaguars and Tmack won her milestone 100th career game last season and is the two-time back-to-back CCAC Conference Coach of the Year.
Game two of the tournament this weekend for GSU is Saturday, Nov. 1, 12 noon vs. St. Mary's of the Woods (Indiana) at ONU.
GovState's home season opener is set for Nov. 5, 6 PM in the ARC vs. Aquinas College (MI).
There will be a Championship Ring Ceremony at 5:30 before the opener next Wednesday honoring the 2024-25 record-setting 29-6 CCAC Conference championship team that advanced to the Final 8 of the NAIA National Tournament last season.
