Week 4 Women's Basketball Honors Go To GSU's McDaniel, IUN's Watson
CHICAGO --- Governors State University's Cencere McDaniel (Alsip, Ill.) and Indiana University Northwest's De'Mour Watson (Chicago, Ill.) have secured Week 4 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors, the league office announced on Tuesday.
McDaniel used three 20-plus point performances to notch the offensive accolades in a 1-2 week for Governors State. She put up averages of 21.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks over the three contests, while also shooting 55 percent from the field (22-of-40) and 57.1 percent from three-point range (8-of-14).
The senior guard's top scoring effort came on Friday in an 84-62 setback to University of Rio Grande (Ohio), where she totaled 24 points to go along with four rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block. One day later, she put up 21 points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal in a 64-59 loss to Shawnee State University (Ohio).
McDaniel opened the week totaling 20 points, five assists, four rebounds, two blocks and one steal in a 100-28 conference victory over Mount Mary University last Wednesday.
Governors State is 5-3 overall and 2-1 in CCAC play.
Watson was a rebounding machine en route to the league's top defensive honors. She averaged 15.0 boards over a pair of games last week, with an average of 12.5 coming on the defensive end. She also provided two steals and two blocks.
The junior guard notched 16 of her 25 defensive rebounds and 19 of her 30 total in a 62-58 victory against St. Ambrose University on Saturday. That matched up with her 24 points, two steals and two blocks. She also provided 11 rebounds (nine on defense), four assists and 16 points in an 82-51 loss to Indiana South Bend last Wednesday.
Indiana Northwest is 1-2 in the league and 2-6 overall.
